Hi Everyone,
I’ve just recorded a video on a new paper by Jacob Haqq-Misra and Ravi Kopparapu. They examined every one of the 112 military sensor videos released through PURSUE, including two especially interesting cases: PR113, an object crossing the frame at an extraordinary angular rate, and PR149, a compact object tracked near a commercial ship. The authors don’t claim to identify these objects. Instead, they argue that none of the released government videos allow for a measurement of the speed of the object in question. There is too much missing data in all videos.
What makes the paper important is its connection to a much older problem. James McDonald was demanding better UFO data more than half a century ago. Today, the American military possesses sensor systems of almost unimaginable sophistication, yet the public receives abbreviated clips with critical portions removed. These releases are still worthwhile, and some of the imagery is genuinely intriguing. But they also reveal how tightly the government continues to control what scientists, and the rest of us, are permitted to know.
This is what I wrote for YouTube:
A new scientific paper examines all 112 military UAP videos released through the government’s PURSUE program, and reaches a damning conclusion. The imagery may be genuine and potentially important, but the government has withheld the range data, aircraft information, sensor settings, unredacted telemetry and radar records needed to determine what these objects were actually doing. I have argued that while the videos do show interesting activity, this is not scientific transparency. The public deserves not only to see the videos, but also the evidence required to understand them. More than half a century after James McDonald published “Science in Default,” the government is still preventing independent scientists from resolving the UFO mystery. The imagery is important, but we must demand the complete data.
