Aggressive Changes To the Site: Today and this Weekend!

By | April 5, 2019

We are in the process of making significant (and very positive) changes to the site this weekend.

All of this is designed to improve your experience as a user, from ease of signing up,  canceling your membership, and everything in-between. Overall, you will be able to control your membership much better.

As we’ve mentioned before, the main addition will be to have a forum for everyone. This will definitely happen, but what we discovered is that for reasons we have yet unknown, the site is using an unusual amount of resources to operate. Much more than it should.

Our web expert, Evelyn, discovered that our site is subject to an unusually high level of “bot” activity. A bot is an application that performs an automated task. As I learned from CNET, “Bots are everywhere in technology, ranging from malicious bots that come with a virus to search engine spiders that crawl the Internet looking for new Web pages to add.”

Okay, that’s great, except we are being flooded with them. Evelyn is working on it, trying to understand why. We will get to the bottom of this. It’s important because if we want a viable Forum, we need to reduce our resource consumption, and it seems like dealing with the bots is the best place to start. We are also checking all the plug-ins that are in the site and testing to see which ones may be causing problems.

For that reason, we are just giving you a heads-up that there may be a glitch in the matrix, so to speak, and if there is one, it won’t last for more than a day or two. It will probably not affect any current members. But we may prohibit new sign-ups for a day or two while we figure this out.

And, I should mention for those members who like to use our awesome Chatroom, it’s possible, though not definite, that it may not be available for brief periods during this time. Everything is being tested.

But it’s all good news. The bottom line is that good changes are coming. We will keep you posted!

I have noticed you don’t need to log in to access member-only content under recent posts and you can use either the title in the cast to go to youtube to see it or watch it in the RD web site, again without logging in! Sincerely Mark.

That’s right, Mark. The video is on Youtube, but it’s unlisted, meaning that it’s only available via a specific link. It’s not searchable.

Running a website, especially a membership website and a forum is a full time job, so it’s good that you are getting as much as possible sorted out at this early stage.

Ahem – flooded with bots. With the direction that Google is going, we as a community may need to “circle the wagons” and mobilize whatever internal resources we might have…

Hi Richard . Two things first not sure what finally happened with the Flatwoods being and the craft. The interview explained what finally happened with the Frametown being and craft, did I miss something? Secondly I have submitted two separate question entries using the Contact Us tool on the website, but have not received any answers. How is the best way to submit questions for answers? Is the Contact Us page not the way to go? These were questions unrelated to actual interviews. Let me know. Cheers!
    William in Vancouver.

Hi again, you mentioned there was a Part 3 with Frank Feshino, but cannot find it. Will part 3 be available after the website updates?
