Birthday Thanks and Website Update Progress Report

By | July 1, 2022

Hi Everyone,

First of all, I want to thank Tracey for posting a Birthday message late last night. And of course to all of you who offered a happy birthday. I truly appreciate it.

Last night just before going to bed, Tracey was doing something on her phone, and I wasn’t paying attention very much, just assuming she had some last minute thing to deal with. Well, that was her posting the Birthday Message and then approving a bunch of comments. I got to see all that when I woke up this morning. How wonderful.

I also want to update you on what we are doing for the new upgrade of this website. We’re doing a few things, including a “reskinning,” basically a visual upgrade. You’ll see. Nothing radical, but definitely a step up. But perhaps the main thing that I am responsible for in all this is to go back through ALL the posts of this site, going back more than four years, and properly categorizing them so that they can be easily accessed in an upgraded and revised menu system.

In other words, if you want to search by “Article,” “Audio Podcast”, or “Video Podcast,” you can do it. If you want to find any of my guest appearances for other programs, ditto. Or interviews I have conducted with other people.

Then — and I think most importantly — you will be able to navigate by theme. Some of the bigger ones: “Disclosure”, “UFO sightings,” “Encounters,” “Transhumanism,” “Military,” “Ufology,” “USOs”, “Consciousness,” and many many more. You get the idea. Of course, every posts has multiple categories since they usually touch on many things.

The fact is, when we set up this website over four years ago, I really didn’t understand the value or power of creating these types of categories. They will make your experience here much more rich because it will FINALLY be fairly easy to search through the earlier entires of this site for things you want to research. As of this moment, I have categorized all of 2022 and am back to May of 2021. (as I do this I am seeing comments appear and I just immediately read and approve them).

So in other words, I’ve categorized a little more than the last 13 months of posting activity on this site, which is pretty good, but I have a few more days worth of this to get everything done. It’s been nice for me to be reminded of some interesting material that’s been posted here. You will see what I mean.

And really, no one else can do these categories — I feel it has to be me, since I did all the posts. Tracey can’t do this part, nor can anyone else. But in any case, I am making very good progress and want to get this done for all of us soon.

Another feature that we will have will be “Related posts.” As you might imagine, that will be generated at the bottom of every post and will be populated by other posts that have the same categories. They really will be “related” posts.

We believe another upgrade will include a widget for the latest member comments, kind of a running updated thing. Also (I think) something for “most popular posts,” and so on.

We have several other upgrades in mind as well. Tracey and I intend to spend the next few days white boarding the whole thing and getting this done. We have the indispensable help from our webmaster Evelyn also. This is happening!

Honestly, this is a good way for me to spend my birthday. That and a nice dinner this evening. Wishing everyone a wonderful day.

Richard

    Happy Birthday Richard! Yikes. 🙂

Will you do anything to improve the quality of the forum? It has gone far downhill in the past year and many intelligent and thoughtful posters felt the need to leave. I know that personally. It is only about 30 % about ufos since last year. I won’t get into it more than that here.

    Thank you. rita

Thanks richard. I am also guilty of posting some non ufo articles there.

Since someone posted what i wrote here with your response, on the forum, under a Roe V Wade article i posted it seems i have gotten a rather direct message. Over and out……And i am sure this will now be on forum as well.
        Aloha

I’ve got about 75% of the topics “ignored.” Don’t like talk about non-UFO subjects. It was frustrating at first. But, ignoring topics I don’t care for works great. I only get notices about the topics in which I have an interest.

So, I’m OK with everything as it currently stands.

If someone took some unambiguous video of an obvious flying saucer, we’d talk a lot more about flying saucers! But, that hasn’t happened yet. And, as government B.S. occurs daily, world-wide, and since governments are directly tied to the UFO subject, they (all the government-type posts) are basically on topic, no matter how much I don’t like it.

I’m here to support Richard’s work. It’s important. He’s the only living UFO researcher in which I have blind faith.

Running a discussion board is extrememly difficult. It takes a ton of patience and understanding from everyone. Same goes for simply being a member of a discussion board. ANY discussion board. 🙂

“I’m here to support Richard’s work. It’s important. He’s the only living UFO researcher in which I have blind faith.”

I also support Richard Dolan’s work and have the highest admiration for him. When people ask me about whose website I go to, Richard’s is always the first out of my mouth. I am gladly paying the new rate increase because he delivers VALUE. I would say that out of all UFO pundits, Mr. Dolan comes closest to my own opinions and conclusions in this hall of smoke and mirrors we think of as “objective reality”.

But— no one is perfect. Having blind faith in someone seems a dangerous thing, to me. Doing that makes Richard into a cult figure, a demi-god, when he is just some guy, you know? Having blind faith in someone you admire as much as we both obviously do, does them a disservice. When we have blind faith in anything, we do not examine it in our minds and spirit. This examination is what leads to questions, and perhaps… new answers.

You’re probably just expressing the highest praise that you can for Richard Dolan. That’s a good thing. It just sets off some alarms for me with those particular words— because I have seen, time after time*, that normal sane persons of above average intelligence will enter into one of the many cults of personality that have dominated the UFOlogical world— and they become of very little use in moving anything forward, other than the career of their cult-of-personality leader. They stop thinking for themselves. They stop doing their own research.

May I speak for you, Mr. Dolan, that you do not want that?

        No offense meant to anyone.

        ………………………………….

        * This isn’t something new. It was well underway when I started to do things in this field in 1988.

“You’re probably just expressing the highest praise that you can for Richard Dolan.”

Yes, that’s all it is. 🙂
This paragraph by you expresses what I meant:

“I also support Richard Dolan’s work and have the highest admiration for him. When people ask me about whose website I go to, Richard’s is always the first out of my mouth. I am gladly paying the new rate increase because he delivers VALUE. You phrased my thoughts a lot better than I did., haha. Well done!

Keep up with the political thought, I find what you say interesting and informative. I am more than sure you are stirring the pot and it needs stirring. I like how you Segway from political thought to UFO’S. If you are inadvertently referred to as professor Dolan take it as a compliment.

“Disclosure”, “UFO sightings,” “Encounters,” “Transhumanism,” “Military,” “Ufology,” “USOs”, “Consciousness,”

Maybe add “Esoteric Experiences”. IMO, drop Transhumanism, Military, and Disclosure. IMO, AI does not have to be real to succeed as the curtain that hides the wizard who pulls all the levers. Transhumanism is eugenics by another name. Military is an unrelated topic. Disclosure is no longer possible. Nobody with any brains trusts the MSM anymore.

My 2 cent and only a friendly suggestion. -A

    1. Richard Dolan Post author

Well, I can say that I have added “Psi Phenomena” for Esoteric Experiences. There’s lots on this website that deal with transhumanism so I need to keep that as a category. Ditto “military” and “disclosure.” The categories I am creating simply reflect the content that is already here. If new themes come up in the future, the nice thing is that I can create new categories for them and include them from that point. I should add that there are MANY categories that will be seen. I’ve probably created well over 25 so far.

“Another feature that we will have will be “Related posts.” As you might imagine, that will be generated at the bottom of every post and will be populated by other posts that have the same categories. They really will be “related” posts. ”

“We believe another upgrade will include a widget for the latest member comments, kind of a running updated thing. Also (I think) something for “most popular posts,” and so on. ”
    …………………………………………………..

While both of these are familiar features of search engines, social media and MSM news sites we have all grown used to, we also know that those very features have been manipulated to channel attention, thought, and peoples’ time. They have all BEEN CAUGHT RED-HANDED DOING IT.

Do I have to post links to the history– THE RECENT history of this HAPPENING? It happens in more than one way, so this is not to be seen as any sort of accusation against anyone at Richard Dolan Members dot com. The ways it can happen are these:

1.) The owners of the search engine / social media / forum / sales / video platform manipulate “related” and “most popular” for their own ends, or the ends of others who pay them, or order them to do so with the authority of covert shadow laws. Let me hasten to say that I am in no way concerned that this is happening here at RDM dot com, at present. I don’t think I would be here if I thought that was true.

    2. ) Tech / Admin Personnel working for the above who covertly manipulate via their work authority, without the knowledge or approval of the site owners.

3.) ‘Bot armies owned or controlled by individual, corporate or government actors.

4.) Efforts by groups of interest-aligned individuals who do not actually reflect what is “related” or “most popular”

We should always beware the pandering of “most popular” and the channeling of “related”. I understand that stats about “most popular” are important to you, Richard and Tracey, as the people who actually originate the content— that’s legit. Do you want to use these abused tools to drive traffic? What’s your reward? What’s our reward? Why do we want these things? Do we really WANT these things? I know you get to make to make the decisions, but you DO ask for input.

    1. Richard Dolan Post author

I can easily answer this question. My goal is only to use “related” posts to help people explore this website. There are roughly 1,000 posts in this site currently (about 250 per year). There is so much in here that in going through the old posts, I can tell you that I have forgotten 90 percent of them, even though I created them myself. I suspect that most members here have a similar experience. There is no easy way to explore the older posts here. A feature of related searches helps to rectify that. Relating to the widget of popular comments — this is something Tracey and I are thinking about. We haven’t made a final decision but the fact is that I think it seems like a nice feature. (I like it more than Tracey, who has reservations about it). By implementing these changes my goal is to make this website a more engaging and enjoyable experience. I suppose that means a person may spend more time here — but I don’t make any more money as a result. It just means that (hopefully) the person is happier with his or her experience here. And THAT is always my goal. I hope this answers your question.

      1. ACTIVEGUARDIAN

“Related posts” drive traffic. Not necessarily for money numbers, I wasn’t accusing you of that, or ANYTHING. We all willingly PAY to be here. There are no ads here and I assume you do not derive income or other benefit/credit/value via google analytics or other means of selling our information.

Would a better alternative be to have preset search options for topics and guests? Press this radio button and you get a search that results in say, all the results for Tracey, Jimmy Church, Luis Elizondo, or say, USOs, Secret Space Program, Breakaway Civilization, E.T. Diplomacy, sightings by year or decade — or other topic. In this way you and your web-folks could KNOW that search on those topics works properly and you might be keen to deliver the best results for site members to choose from. Website search engines in general work poorly I have found. If you can get a better search engine, the world will beat a path to your door. Having a kind of topic specific button with usable filters such as date created, size of file, etc., would be most useful AND easy to use. Navigating through yet another site organization tree could be better, I’m sure, but let’s make things easiest with the best results where we can figure it out.

Are you constrained by what is offered to you by the platform owner? Must you choose THEIR proprietary functions and features or is this platform at least somewhat more customizable? While most purveyors of such platform-based software will tell you to “like it or leave”, I understand that sometimes if you ask for something that’s a good idea, they may want to implement and offer it. Some providers have even written code just for one site as a favor, because they like you.

I look forward to the new website’s appearance and functionality.

        1. Richard Dolan Post author

Well, keep in mind that several things remain the same as always. First, anyone can type in those search terms and get the exact results you want. So if you type “Elizondo” for instance, you can already get all posts that have anything to do with him. (or any place where his name appears). That would get you a few hits that might not apply to your specific needs, but I imagine it would not be onerous to sift through those results. In fact, I personally use the search feature of this site all the time. It works great and of course will remain. Also, I’m sure you realize we will also retain the basic reverse chronological feature of all posts. In other words, anyone can simply scroll down all the many posts, going as far back in time as they want. You can do that now of course but also that feature will remain. Basically, I am here to tell you that all the changes coming will be GOOD and very desirable from any point of view imaginable. There is NO desire or plan to manipulate anyone here, goodness. Tracey and I just want to offer different ways for people to find information and engage with more than four years of content that has been created here. Oh yes, I will add that in addition to upgrading the menu navigation, we will indeed be creating those types of buttons you suggested. I’m just going to ask you to trust in what we are doing. You will see soon enough.

I’m perfectly happy with the forum and like to explore other non ufo opinions and stories. UFO secrecy touches a multitude of other areas like medicine, energy, economy, politics. It would be hard to unwind these tendrils to produce a forum that just talks about UFOs. Happy Birthday! If you ever come out to the West Coast, (California) I would love to meet you.
